Hi, this is James Schamus, the CEO of Focus Features. And it’s our great pleasure to be joining with our friends at CJ Entertainment to help produce and distribute director PARK Chan-wook’s next film, THIRST.It’s been years and years since I saw my first movie by director PARK. And as a complete film geek, and cinema nerd, I’ve been desperate in some small way to be a part of his incredible film making genius. So we were very lucky, when I was able to join my colleague Christian Grass, at Focus Features International and hook up with our friends at CJ, to be able to participate in THIRST.It’s an amazing movie, as I’m sure you already know. One that I believe really tracks across so many different kinds of questions about culture, identity, sexuality and belief, and religion as well as just being an incredible entertainment at the same time.Obviously we’ve never managed here in United States to even come close to the success that CJ has come with director Park’s movies in Korea and throughout Asia. But I really believe that there are people here in the States and around the world, who are ready to continue to enjoy and learn from the great vision of director PARK.So we’re really looking forward to introducing this latest film of his, to American audiences later this year. It’s really quite a ride. It just brings a smile to my face even when I can’t look, I still have to look at his movies. And in this film in particular he takes on something, I think, even more important than he has in his earlier work. And that’s the question, really of love, at the end of the day. Just what it means to be in love. You know we always say that when you fall in love, it’s forever. And when you are a vampire, I guess that you really mean it. And there’s something both incredibly exhilarating and expansive and wonderful about that, and also obviously something extraordinarily scary, and frightening. And very few films I’ve ever seen, may be going back to Hitchcock’s Vertigo, have I ever seen that kind of feeling of a love movie, that was at the same time a horror film, a terrifying philosophical exercise in thinking through to the greatest extremes of what human emotions and human ambitions can lead to.So it’s a great journey, we’re really happy to be joining CJ on it, and please do everything you can as we will to continue to make sure that audiences enjoy, respect, and admire the growing body of great work of director PARK.
